"When you bite your fingernails, you are eating God alive!"

Who we are & when we are

I have not been well and so these last pages have been long overdue. Thanks for the many kind e-mails over the past few weeks. I really appreciate hearing from you.

I know I promised earlier that I would discuss communism and transcendentalism. But this next thing I am writing about is more important. After you understand this you will be able to interpret both of these ideas with this information. I don't want to delay this any longer, so here goes.

This next part is going to be fairly easy to understand, but perhaps not so easy to accept. And I do not ask you to accept this right now, but to consider the possibility that what I am going to say could be true.

If I have not already shattered many traditionally held views about reality and religion, this next fact is a real world-view changer. Rather than use hundreds of words to explain a phenomenon that has to do with time, I'm going to ask you to watch this 10 minute video:

The point being made in the video is that our past, present and future already exist and is real. That means that you and I have already lived and died and perhaps even were re-born as some new sentient beings -- either here on Earth or maybe even in some distant worlds. The idea that our past already exists is something we take for granted but the fact that our future already exists is very disturbing.

What about free will?

This kind of makes our idea of "free will" seem moot; but I can assure you that, from our own perspective, it is one of the basic pre-requisites of existence. Right now you can do just about whatever you want to do. There is no restriction imposed upon your life from the already written script of future events. Nevertheless, whatever you decide to do has already been done and the consequences have already been realized.

So how do we get our minds to comprehend this? And how is it that our consciousness can have such a huge affect upon matter (i.e. electrons and photons)? Who are we anyway? I've posed this question many times before but always answered it by giving clues instead of the straight answer. But here it is...

You and I, and everyone else, are the experiential consciousness of this universe. I hesitate to use words like 'god' because our traditional concept of this entity is based upon the idea that there is a being who created the universe and sentient beings, and then gave us rules to follow and will eventually judge our behavior. Nothing could be further from the truth.

The universe is alive and aware of itself through you and me. God, for lack of a better word, is self-distributed and permeates creation with seemingly unique perspectives of which each of us is one.

When we interact with other conscious beings, we are interacting with another manifestation of God. In other words, God interacts with itself through us. And when this awareness is directed towards the matter and energy of the universe it affects it in unexplainable ways which we observe in the quantum world.

What about good and evil?

In this model of the universe there is no good or evil -- no right or wrong. All of these ideas are relative to the time and personal consciousness of the individual. All of these acts are part of the fabric and evolution of an already perfected universe. Error is necessary for there to be truth, just as darkness is needed to contrast with light.

Perhaps a better way of explaining this is to say that evil, error and what we call "sin" exists to be overcome. Like a stressful workout is to an athlete, the problems, calamities and atrocities provide the necessary stress and tension that tests and strengthens the goodness and love that has already resulted in a perfect future.

What about religion?

Look around at the condition of the world today. Not only do religions foster bickering, hatred and persecution of each other, but they contain no realistic truth that allows humans to get along with everyone, no matter what they believe. Imagine a civilization that acknowledges the presence of God in themselves and in each other. Imagine that the golden rule really applies because the harm you do to another will eventually be done to you -- really.

With a fairly simple manipulation of time, it is possible that we will eventually (or maybe have already) be that person we mistreated. Since there is really only one universal consciousness, it must play all of the roles in this grand drama. You are me, and I am you. And we are all together.

This is really not a new idea. Just as electrons bounce from one atom to another, never ending, so we also bounce from being to being. What goes around, comes around.

Well... that's it. All that remains is for you to contemplate this and, if you think it might be true, what does that mean for you and your life?

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as ONE

Find the Creator inside of yourself first; then learn to recognize it in other people. Re-establish the voice.

Sleep well. Thanks for accompanying me on this Bicameral Mind Adventure.
