Photos by Henry B. (UK) Henry uses a Fujitsu Digital Camera and natural lighting. He prefers to photograph outside and doesn't usually use any special filters. We think he has a very "good eye."
This is a beautiful portrait photo that Henk sent to us of an 8 year old model named "Ellie." It has soft, pastel colors and a dream-like, blur effect that enhances the innocence and beauty of this special little girl. This photo is also excellent. The facial expression is candid yet classic. But what makes this photograph visually interesting are the coordinated pink and blue colors which focus attention away from the background. The choice of clothing is also unexpected and visually interesting.

We had to crop this photo a little because the garden occupied a majority of the picture. While the colorful background is pleasing and adds to the ambiance of the image, it should not dominate a portrait. Remember, the model is always the focus of attention. Here, the costume and facial expression are truly beautiful.

We think this was the first attempt to photograph this beautiful model in her costume. Obviously, the background does not add anything to the portrait and is actually distracting... but in the next image...
PERFECT! The neutral background focuses our attention on the model and creates a studio-like appearance. Also, the unusual facial expression adds to the overall joy of this picture.
These photos illustrate the underestimated value of natural lighting over flash illumination. The contrast is softer and, especially with children, creates a candid experience that can be otherwise difficult to achieve. Well done again, Henry! Note: We welcome your photos for posting and critique. |
